As our project moves from one phase to another, we are going to talk about it here, or on our twitter account. We will give out as much information as we can, without giving it all away.
We can say this much about it - we have been planning the super secret project for about two years (in our brains and on paper) and have started actual production in June 2009.
Our team is small, our timeframes are tight and we are utilizing the 37signals methodology to develop our application. We are not affiliated with them. We just think they have the right philosophy. We have chosen to do our project with out venture capital, as we feel it would slow the process down, create a project that would be bloated and would try to do too much, without doing our main objective well.
Why Would Someone Donate Time and Money to a For-Profit Company, doing a For-Profit Project?
It's hard to say really, but we hope people understand that we are trying something completely new. We are doing so with the complete love for the project that is required to do it well. We hope that when we are done with it, you will love what we have done.
Here is our promise to you: We will not forget you. We will do our best to track articles and tweets about the project. We will give anyone that donates some cash or effort the first glance at the project before we launch it. We will give you back your money if at all possible and then some. We can't guarantee anything. Seriously - don't count on it. But if we do well enough to turn a profit, we will pay you back your money and do our best to give you something extra if and when the time is right.
We do not want you donating too much, as we don't need a million dollars or anything near that to complete this project. Our concern is that we can all feed our families, not go belly-up in our other work and focus 100% on the task at hand.
